Open Question: Do I have any recourse on being sold an Extended Dealership Warranty without my knowledge?

I suppose the answer is the old adage of "let the buyer beware." Six years ago, I bought a Hyundai Accent. I told the salesman that I wanted the Hyundai 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, not a warranty that is for fewer years or mileage. The salesman tried to talk me out of it, explaining that it would cost me an additional thousand dollars. I insisted on getting the Hyundai 10 year/ 100K mile warranty. So the salesman had me sign all this paperwork. I thought I was all set. Last year, very close to the five year anniversary of owning my car, I had to bring my car in for repairs that involved a warranty covered item. The guys in the service department told me that I needed to call Hyundai to get me to get the OK for them to proceed on a repair. I thought that was a little weird. Then a customer service person at Hyundai in California tells me that according to Hyundai's records, that I only had a five year warranty with them. I got my paperwork for my car sale and it turns out what I thought I was paying for an additional 5 years of coverage with Hyundai was actually one of those dealership insurance deals, the "extended warranties" that are sold by local car dealerships and not honored by the car manufacturers. Hyundai assured me that the repair I wanted fixed was covered but that future warranty coverage had expired. And there was no way at this point to extend my coverage with Hyundai. To make a long story even longer, not only is the guy who sold me my car long gone, but the original dealer sold out to another dealership family. After being "ripped off" by all of this, I am so mad that I would like to know if I could sue Hyundai and the dealership for this action. I feel as if I was tricked by the salesman into buying something that I did not request, and lead to believe that I had purchased something that I did not. I have heard that local dealerships try to push the dealership extended warranties because the sales people can make a much higher commission on selling these services. Dealership warranties are useless, and are basically extended car insurance with all sorts of exceptions to service repairs hidden in the fine print. I told Hyundai that I could mail or fax them a copy of my original bill of sale showing where the salesman had clearly checked off 10 year/100,000 coverage. Hyundai's response was to say nothing, and do nothing. If the leader of North Korea wants a weapon of mass destruction to destroy America, it is Hyundai. The cars are cheaply made, parts soldered like a cheaply made refridgerator, are prone to rust, the brakes are noisy, and if there is any horse power to the car, that is a very sick horse. I don't know if I could have a case. To think that Hyundai is pushing what is basically fraud on this country is an outrage. I'll bet you that the Korean owners probably drive Mercedes vehicles. Is there any way that I can take the dealer to court and reach to sue the deep pocket by taking a case against Hyundai so that this dealer can be reprimanded? Or have Hyundai and the dealership screwed me with the fine print and there is nothing I can do about it? more

Open Question: If I leave before the end of my notice period can they withold my pay?

I have been working at a car delaership as a trainee sales executive for 5 weeks. However, I have been offered a new job which i can't refuse. My contract states I must give 4 weeks written notice, which I handed over after having worked for 3 weeks and 4 days. I have served 1 week and 4 days of this notice period, working as normal. If I was to leave now would my employers have to pay me for the time i have worked? Or can they withold all pay since the date of my notice? ThanksI have asked if i can leave early. The Sales manager/controller is awful (20 sales people have left in the year he has been here, how he is still here beats me!) The Dealer Principle has said he would let me go as soon as he can. However, I am now on a sales support role and the others keep asking me why I am still here, not in a bad way, but it has got me thinking. However, i need to be paid otherwise i will shoot myself in the foot financially. Thanks for the answers so far! more

Open Question: Am i getting screwed by car dealer? And if so what can i do?

Saturday I went to a dealer then left because dealer wouldnt accept offer. Later he called me and accepted and we made a verbal agreement on a car sale. Today he sent the purchase of sale signed by him to my bank for loan approval. I have not put any money down but he did sign bill of sale. Later today he called me and said the owner of dealership doesnt approve of price and he will not sell it to me. I am pretty sure he found a buyer today that offered a higher price and sold it to her because the idiot told me this morning when i called him that he was glad I called because a girl wanted to look at the car but he will not show her anymore. Sounds fishy to me. more

Open Question: please please help me 10 points?

( 10 points ) Please please help me? hi im ana , I'am an college esl studet and i realy need help with this article. I need to make a short summery of this and i have to explein this in my words. PLEASE please help me .... The oil cartel is riding high, at least for now For much of the past few years, energy analysts have been consumed by the fear that the amount of oil pumped each year is reaching a pinnacle, and will soon be in precipitous decline. Fears of “peak oil” have helped to push oil prices to record levels, in nominal terms at least. But in 2008 it will gradually become apparent that it is not oil output that has reached its apogee so much as the power of the cartel that controls its price: OPEC, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. In the 1970s OPEC held the globe to ransom, pushing oil prices past $100 per barrel in today’s money, and tipping the world economy into recession. But the oil shocks it induced ultimately proved self-defeating. Rich nations began making much more efficient use of the oil they bought, and demand for OPEC’s crude started growing far more slowly than the cartel had expected. Western oil companies and OPEC’s state-owned behemoths alike were left with lots of excess capacity. To stave off a total collapse in prices, OPEC had to mothball lots of its own rigs. Non-members, meanwhile, pumped as much oil as they liked, and so profited at OPEC’s expense. So even as OPEC’s share of the world’s oil reserves rose, its share of actual production fell. Worse, many of OPEC’s own members gave in to the temptation to cheat, producing more than their allocated quotas and so making it difficult for the cartel to maintain a steady price. This debilitating cycle has broken down only in recent years, thanks chiefly to a seemingly unquenchable thirst for oil from booming regions like China, India and the Middle East, which have mopped up almost all the world’s spare oil-pumping capacity. Since these places will continue to want ever more oil, there will not be much of a fall in demand in 2008, even if the economies of America or Europe wobble. In theory, big Western firms should respond to buoyant demand and giddy prices by finding and developing more oilfields. But since they made hay during OPEC’s decades of self-denial, and extracted most of the easily tapped oil in the countries to which they had access, they have run out of easy options for expansion. Instead, they are reduced to tremendously expensive projects to coax crude from beneath the icy oceans of the Arctic, for example, or out of viscous deposits of tar. The only bright spots are regions such as the former Soviet Union and Africa, where OPEC does not hold sway and where prospecting with modern technology is only just getting under way. But the countries with the most promising terrain for exploration have begun to develop a nationalist streak: Russia and Kazakhstan have made life difficult for foreign oil firms, for example, and Angola has joined OPEC. No wonder, then, that the oil majors are having trouble raising their output: they will continue to flounder in the coming year in the face of limited opportunities, exacerbated by shortages of engineers and equipment. Meanwhile, since OPEC was always the first to rein in its production in the past, it still has big reserves of oil that are relatively easy to get at. It alone is capable of raising its output quickly—although it will probably choose to prop up the oil price by developing new fields at a leisurely pace. In 2008 the cartel will aim to sell each barrel for between $60 and $80, roughly three times its typical level in the early part of this decade. The cartel’s members are particularly fearful of increasing quotas just as the world economy is slowing, since the combination of lower demand and expanded supply could cause prices to plunge. So OPEC is more likely to worsen a global slowdown by keeping prices high than it is to ease one by allowing them to fall. This hardline stance will cause plenty of friction with big oil importers. OPEC’s meetings will attract as much attention and opprobrium as they did in the 1970s. American presidential candidates will issue plenty of ringing denunciations of Saudi Arabia, let alone more militant members of OPEC, such as Venezuela and Iran. For their part, advocates of biofuels will cite high oil prices, and OPEC’s hand in them, as justification for more subsidies for ethanol and biodiesel. Sales of fuel-efficient cars and hybrids will roar ahead, while gas-guzzling SUVs will fall further behind. Frightened Western governments will announce efficiency drives, and throw money at scientists working on potential miracle fuels and vehicles. In short, OPEC’s latest period of ascendancy, like its brief heyday in the 1970s, contains the seeds of its own destruction—but that will be scant consolation to hard-pressed drivers in 2008. Open Question: Would the BMV be able to tell that I bought my used car through a dealer if they never registered it?

The BMV requires a special form that I either did not receive, or that I lost, called a PT108, it's basically to show that I paid the sales tax on the car. I guess if I had bought if from a private dealer I would have just paid the tax at the BMV. The dealership never registered the title in their name(BMV told me this is perfectly legal to do in my state), so the car is still currently registered under the person who originally traded the car to the dealership. So since it's a private parties name on the title could I just say I bought it from them since I can't come up with this PT108 form? I realize I'd be paying the sales tax on the car again, but I really don't care at this point and it would only be a few hundred dollars, I just want to be able to drive it. Thanks to anyone that takes the time more

Open Question: Need help on information about getting car at dealership.?

I'm new at the whole car buying thing, and I have a question. Would a dealership take something like $50 or more for money down on a used truck? It's about $3,000 and I'm thinking of paying may be $73/mo. for 60 months. I have a DJ job this week and I'll get may be $50 and I start working again next month, right now I'm talking to my boss if I can start next week instead of next month. Also, how much would sales tax cost for a car in Georgia? Plus what are some other fees for buying a car? I know there's registration, tax, and title, but is there others?Sorry for all the questions, but one more thing... Could the fees be included in the monthly payment, or are they needed to be paid right away?NOTE to others: Please don't post links about getting a job... My question isn't about getting a job, it's about buying a truck. Thank you. more

According to Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, Vice President Biden's famously loose lips loosed top-secret info about the location of the VP's secret bunker. (Guess what? It's in the basement of his house.) In March, Biden replaced President Obama as the main speaker at the annual dinner thrown by the Gridiron Club, an exclusive journalists' club. The swanky dinner is a chance for media types to rub shoulders with top politicians. But this year, Obama became the first president to send his regrets since Grover Cleveland in 1885. According to Politico, Biden killed it, poking jokes at his boss and Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's speech, saying he could "hardly wait for the English translation." But during dinner, Biden — who's got his very own "Gaffe-o-meter" over at The New Republic — proved once again his terminal case of Foot-in-Mouth Disease. Clift blogged over the weekend that Biden told his dinner mates the location of the secret bunker, where former Vice President Dick Cheney is believed to have retreated after the September 11 attacks: "... a young naval officer giving [Biden] a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment." Open Question: People who live or lived in studio apartments, help?

I posted a while ago about this and people were actually pretty rude, so I figured i'd give another go. I plan on geting my first apartment alone in January, and I'm looking at a studio apartment since I'm not really a packrat and it's fine for me + cat. Currently my job pays $12 an hour and I take home about $450 every 2 weeks (not to bad for a 17-year-old, eh?) I'm in the process of saving to get my first car and putting money away for the apartment. When I have my car I'll look for another job to help so I won't be struggling to make ends meet, though I am prepared to struggle for a little while. (Please don't tell me I don't know what a struggle is, I'm actually poverty level and we have been for years) SO I did make a list last night, and had my mother go through it, that had about 2 full pages (with two columns per page) of things I'll need. Most of it isn't absolutely necessary but what I'll need over time. The apartment I'm looking at is : http://www.forrent.com/apartment-community-profile/1000009746.php The efficiency style, and it's not that expensive. I am aware the rent will probably go up by January when I plan to move out and I have to take the pet deposit + rate into account since i'm bringing my cat with me. They do allow cats, I've asked, and heat, electric, and water are included in the rent. My other bills would just be my cell phone which is pretty cheap, my internet bill with maybe some basic cable since I'm not a real TV junkie, groceries, car insurance and gas for the car. Can anyone offer ideas for furniture that aren't space eaters and look halfway decent but can also dual as function? I'm thinking about getting a loft bed and having my desk (it's not a big one) and dresser underneath it, and possibly my other storage drawers I have as well, with Shoji dividers around it for privacy. I'm bringing my futon with me to act as couch (and second bed if someone needed to stay overnight) instead of a regular table, a coffeetable would be fine. I've got a small TV shelf that holds my tv, dvd player, and DVD's. I'm not looking for anythign fantastic, I'll probaly look at salvation army and tag sales for furtniture befor elooking in stores. And any not-permanate decorating ideas? I know I can't put holes in the wall or paint, but what baout fabricing the walls? and what's a good alternative to getting things to hang on the wall if i can't use nails or tacks? more

Open Question: What is about women and shopping?

Does this sound familar!!!! Women and shopping A woman was in town on a shopping trip. She began her day finding the most perfect shoes in the first shop and a beautiful dress on sale in the second. In the third everything had just been reduced by 50 percent when her mobile phone rang. It was a female doctor notifying her that her husband had just been in a terrible car accident and was in critical condition and in the ICU The woman told the doctor to inform her husband where she was and that she'd be there as soon as possible. As she hung up she realized she was leaving what was shaping up to be her best day ever in the boutiques. She decided to get in a couple of more shops before heading to the hospital. She ended up shopping the rest of the morning, finishing her trip with a cup of coffee and a beautiful chocolate cake slice compliments of the last shop. She was jubilant. Then she remembered her husband.. Feeling guilty, she dashed to the hospital . She saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about her husband's condition The lady doctor glared at her and shouted, 'You went ahead and finished your shopping trip didn't you! I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself in town, your husband has been languishing in the Intensive Care Unit! It's just as well you went ahead and finished, because it will more than likely be the last shopping trip you ever take! For the rest of his life he will require round the clock care. And he will now be your career!' The woman was feeling so guilty she broke down and sobbed. The lady doctor then chuckled and said, 'I'm just pulling your leg. He's dead. Show me what you bought.'Rover's off on holiday !....hate shopping?? are you not well?....lolYaya it's a joke ffs....are you blond?Misty Blue lol...i wouldn't block you, we have had our differences in the past and still we sometimes disagree but then we're only human.... more

Open Question: Sibling Problems can someone please help?

My siblings do not have much. In any aspect. Money, belongings, class, etiquette, etc. I do not understand why they are like this. My mother did not raise us to be worthless idiots yet for some reason 3 of the 5 of use turned out to be. My sister is a terrible mother and person. (I'll just let it at that) she is constantly needing and borrowing. For a long time I refused to lend her money or much else because she would make empty promises of repayment or whatever. I use to lend her my vehicle but she would be gone for hours then bring my vehicle back on empty and a few times with damage she even loaned my vehicle to others. Now, my mother or I run her instead of trust her with the vehicle (she has a van but it rarely runs). The one thing I did do is give her an apartment in the building my husband and I own. One reason was because of her children (I do not want to get into it). She owed me $50.00 rent for this month. On top of that I bought her diapers, and a pack of cigarettes. (I know I shouldn't have) She was to pay me the money today. My mother used my vehicle to take my sister to the bank and to the store (she received her child support today) There were 2 things I asked for. 1. pay me the money I'm owed and 2. replace the gas that you use. She did neither. She paid me some of what she owed. But not all of it. I am very angry with her. Mostly because I lost my job about 7 months ago and things have been very tight. i cannot afford to just hand things over to her. She called me and asked to use my car to go to a town that is about 25 miles away (one way) because she wants to try and sale some pain pills she has and she'll give me gas and pay me the rest of what she owes me. I told her no. She began screaming at me and calling me names I simply hung up. She and my brother are always doing this to me. Then they make me feel so badly all I want to do is cry. She claims she could not pay me and get my gas because her cell phone bill was high and took most of her child support (which is a nice sum of money it is only a couple hundred less than I live on! plus she has other money sources!) I hate the way they treat me. I can't even believe she would ask me to give her my car to sale pills. Its ridiculious. I am against drugs my husband and I do not do them or anything i have no respect for anyone who has to turn to drugs. It makes me so sick! As if that did not make me angry enough she started promising me more monye and more gas if I let her go sale them. First of all why would I want dirty money? I am not that kins of person. Secondly, what if she didn't sale them? Or, if she was arrested? Then what? I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I have a dr's appointment tomorrow. I have explained that if she uses all of my gas then I can not go to my appointment which I need to go to, to get my meds. She claims she'll get money and everything will be fine. I still said no. How do I deal with my family?! I feel like I am losing my mind. (I especially wnat to know how to stop the rude comments about me and my husband. They are always so ignorant when they don't get their way and it hurts. They are suppose to be my family! Family does not treat family that way1)One reason the money is such a big issue is because it is how I would have paid for my meds. When I lost my job I lost my insurance. more

Open Question: CAN A 1,200 DOLLAR USED CAR BE FINANCED?

I am a senior in H.S. and I want a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is for sale at a dealership for 1,200 dollars. The smartest thing would be to pay the full 1200 in cash which i do not have due to prom and other college expenses coming up. So I was wondering can this car be financed through my mom dad or or older brother using their credit? thanks more

Open Question: If I buy an $8-10K used car, is financing an option? If so, what should I expect to pay as a down payment?

What's the general way used car dealers handle used car sales in that range? 20% down payment? 50%? My credit is good, and I have no interest in buying a brand new car. Thanks in advance! more

Open Question: What are some tips that you have on how to sell sports memorabilia at a card show?

I am looking to sell some memorabilia at a card show at the Northland Mall in Appleton, Wisconsin. The table cost $15 and is 8 feet long. I am actually splitting the cost with a friend of mine and have a variety of stuff to sell. First, how do I price the items? Post it notes, rummage sale stickers, etc... Secondly, what would you recommend selling? Some items that I would like to sell are autographed Green Bay Packers cards, photos, and like a few small items such as baseballs, bobbleheads, and autographed kicking tees. I have 5 broken bats but keep in mind I only have 4.5 feet of table space. Maybe stack items under the table or keep some in my car? Lastly, would you recommend making business card with my email address on it and possibly a list of all my memorabilia for sale? Thanks to everyone for the help and stop by my booth in July!!! more

Resolved Question: Selling 2001 Grand-Am?

Well my dad( I'm 16) said that if I can sell our 2001 Grand-Am that we can buy a Mustang we saw for sale. So I parked our car at the end of our driveway and put a couple of for sale signs on it. I was just wondering since I will be talking to those who are interested in the car, while dad is at work, what information should I tell them. We are asking $2000.00 Firm. Its a beautiful car, easy on gas and since we've had it for 3yrs we haven't had to do anything to it except for changing the oil and transmission fluid. It does have 270 000 kms on it however still works great. As for the body, there are a few nicks on it but nothing to bad. The only things wrong with it are that one wiper blade should be replaced and one of the doors sticks sometimes. Here are the pics, is it worth the money or are we asking to much. ***Not trying to sell it on here, just need help with the process of selling it. Its also very sporty looking car, I love it but a Mustang is my dream car. PS: The streaks are because we just washed it and it wasn't dry yet. http://s602.photobucket.com/albums/tt102/AleeRex/?action=view&current=good1.jpg http://s602.photobucket.com/albums/tt102/AleeRex/?action=view&current=good12.jpg more

Resolved Question: Driving dilemma, plz help me!?

I have a problem (what's knew here?), for a long time i've been uncomfortable driving a car, i have my G1 and can take the test for G2 but i avoid driving a lot, so im not nearly ready to take the test. My dad gets really impatient with me cause he doesn't understand that i really really don't like driving cars... and often complains that "i wish she'd take her G2 already" to anyone who'll listen which only makes me extremely pissed off. Now i just found out that there's a moped on sale for a grand, now i don't mind the idea of driving a moped (since i ride my bike a lot, I'm used to that sort of thing) but mom is worried about the danger in it. Another big issue is that my grandma need to be brought to and from a hospital 3 times a week for dialysis, and if i can drive, then my dad won't have to take time off work as much. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Plus my dad pressuring me is REALLY not helping! WHAT SHOULD I DO??? it's been keeping me up all night (it's currently 2:50am) sigh more

Open Question: A few questions about a bonded title?

I bought a car a while ago, lost the title before ever registering it in my name. Have tried to contact the previous owner to get her to get a duplicate title with zero luck. I'm looking for any options and recently someone told me to look into getting it bonded. This is the site I came accross https://secure.surety1.com/application-1.php First question, is this a legitimate thing for what I want? I want to be able to legally drive my car, register it, insure it, plate it, etc. Secondly, if this is legitimate. What do I put for "bond amount" (also, what does that even mean?) and "auto value"? Does someone have to look at the car to assess it's value or do I go by my bill of sale? Note that the car was purchased 2 years ago and has obviously depreciated in value. Last thing, it says "The bond amount is based on the value of the vehicle and the premium will be 1% of the value with a minimum of $150.00". So does this mean that I'd just pay the 150 if the car is valued at under $3,000? Or does it mean I have to pay the total amount the car is valued at, PLUS their fee? (and if that is the case, then anyone have any other suggestions on how to get this taken care of?, hah) Thanks so much to anyone that takes the time. more

Open Question: Do I have to pay sales taxes again on a vehicle I leased in another state if I moved to a new state?

I leased my car last year in Indiana and registered/titled it in that state. I now live in the state of Illinois, but I do not want to get stuck paying a sales tax on my vehicle again. My understanding is that Indiana incorporates the taxes due into your monthly lease payments. If I have to pay a sales tax to the state of Illinois I would be paying two different states a tax on the car. This doesn't seem correct to me. I have an Illinois drivers license because I lived in Illinois in 2005. I never changed the license because it doesn't expire until 2010. I was able to register my car in Indiana without an Indiana driver's license. What do I have to do to ensure I don't end up paying a tax twice? Moreover, for the state of Illinois, do they require you to pay a sales tax on an out-of-state leased vehicle? (The car cost $17,000 and by the end of the lease with my monthly payments, I will have only had to pay $9,100 of that total.) more

Open Question: Is this French Coursework ok?

Okay, so I've just finished my French coursework. I had to write a formal letter to a travel company complaining about my stay. Can you please let me know of any errors I have made, or ways to make it more interesting?
