I own a 2003 f150 Harley Davidson edition. It has a 5.4L supercharged engine. Now dont get me wrong it has plenty of power but I want a little more. I dont want to get a programmer because I have been told that they wear the engine and mainly the supercharger down alot quicker and put unwanted stress on the engine. I was thinking about whether I wanted to trade my f150 for a duramax. And it got me thinking, are gas trucks better than diesels? Or vice versa. Cuz had had good experiences with both. I had a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 6.6L diesel that was reliable didn't have problems and got it up to 130K miles. My dad had a 1997 ford f 350 powerstroke that he put 475K miles on original motor. also performance wise diesels make more power on less money. My gmc I put bout 5K in mods to make it up to 500 hp. My f150 I have put 12K in mods and its at 480 hp. And for gas, I have seen cars with 200K miles and that still run great! And they are cheaper lol so what do you think are better? Diesels really worth the extra money? more

f150 supercrew 4x4 4.3l v8 the heat seems to get cold at lower rpms and hotter at higher rpms. i have coolant in the overflow tank, i havent checked the actual radiator, but its not running hot. what should i do? let me know if you need more infowow. thanks for answering that you dont know. really helped. hope you really needed those two points.just wanted to add this.. the heat seems to get hot quicker than the truck does when i first start it up in the mornings (its like -10F here in the mornings.). sometimes it will get cold while im driving down the road, once i park if i rev it, then it will get hot again. other times it works fine at both idle and while driving. the problem seems to be intermittent. if the water pump stops circulating water wont the engine overheat? its not running hot. also, i dont want to replace anything thats unneeded. i did just buy it recently and the guy had just flushed the coolant himself, so maybe there is just air in the lines. ive heard if you let it run at idle with the cap off the radiator it will slowly burp the air out of the system? thanks for the serious answers guys, i hate it when people leave stupid answers. more

I wrecked my 2003 Ford F150 XLT Supercrew FX4 a few years ago. It had apprx. $7,000 worth of damage with minor frame damage. The truck did not get totalled and I had it repaired at a Ford dealership, and the frame was completely restored to Ford factory specs. I have since driven the truck 80,000 miles, and I am considering selling it private party. The truck is in very good cosmetic shape, and I have kept very good care of it. Kelly Blue Book states it is worth $10,375 in good condition and $9,575 in fair condition. How much will this accident affect what I can get for the truck? Thanks in advance. more

I have a 2003 Ford F150 with a 4.6l V8. I installed a K&N air intake about 18 months ago. About 6 months ago i started noticing a sucking/popping sound coming from my air intake when i am parked or slowing down. It sounds like it is coming out of my air filter. The sound seems to be gradually getting louder and more often. Now my check engine light is coming on. Can anybody help me with this? Additional Details My problem has just gotten worse...The engine is sputtering and revving while i am parked. I have tried cleaning my air filter but it didnt work. How do i check the emission pump to see if it is malfunctioning?The best i can tell the sound is coming out of the air filter.The best i can tell the sound is coming out of the air filter.all of the hoses appear to be in good shape and attached properly.I found where the sound is coming from....There is a hose that comes off the side of the intake that goes to the top of the intake manifold(?). When i pulled that hose with the engine running, the sound started to come out of it instead of the air filter. there was air being pushed out of the hose when it was making the sound. After about 10 seconds the truck sputtered and shut off.I figured it out...It was the idle air control. The motor went out. An old timer told me to stick a old 1/2 inch nut inside the line to fix it and it worked...thank you to all that posted a response more

I have a 2003 Ford F150 4x4 7700 A few weeks back, my ABS light started coming on. It would then go back out after I shut the truck off and re started it but this continued. The brake pedal was vibrating even though there was no poor traction then the ABS light would again come on. Well yesterday I started getting a scraping noise in my front wheel. Could this have something to do with my ABS? What is wrong with my truck? My brake pads were installed one month agoThe scraping isn't consistant. It is only apparent on a left turn. more

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got a 2003 f-150 with the 4.2 engine in it. I have 109k miles on it. My problem is that the idle upon stopping will be stabilized perfectly at 650 rpms and after a second or two will idle down to around 500, rise up to around 950, then stabilize again for about 5 seconds. After that, the problem repeats itself until I start driving again. I also have codes saying that bank 1 and bank 2 are lean; however I never have any other problems besides idling. One other rare case is the idle problem will only happen after I've driven the truck constantly for over an hour. I checked some other answers and there seems to be no vacuum leaks that I can plainly see and the pvc angles are not cracked. I cleaned the mass air flow, changed plugs, and cleaned the air sensor above and past the throttle body. Here the details you wanted. I never had any problems with it starting smoothly. Today, I actually let it warm up for a minute and went to back up at idle speed and I noticed it was a little lower idle than normal but was then fine after I started driving it. I never had any problems with it during driving. Only when at idle speed.Greg. . . You're the man! more

The stock tire on my 2003 Ford F150 4X4 SuperCab is 235/R16. I would like to use a larger tire for appearance and possible stability, but plan to tow a 24' travel trailer. My concern is how will the slightly (1") larger tire diameter going to affect towing.Whoops! I didn't get all the number in the stock tire size. It is P235/70R16 104S. I have a 2003 Ford F150 V6, Auto trans. Every year, I blow the Neutral Safety Switch (which sits against the tranny). It's always in June/July when it's hot outside and the truck has been driven a bit. I've added a tranny cooler and Mag Hytec tranny pan with more fluid. The sensor just blew again last week. The truck will rev on its own, kick out of gear and in gear etc. As soon as I replace the switch, everything works perfect......for another year. I'm frustrated. Any ideas??I have been buying Ford parts. It always seems to happen when it's hot, both outside and after the truck is hot.Gearbox, Where is that adjustment? I've never touched it. I checked hoses and there are a couple that are marginal. I also ran my OBDII scanner on it and it came up with a P0456 code (EVAP) small leak. I don't know if that's related or coincidence. more
